I have been prowlin around the net lookin for a good picture of Roy's boots and i came across something I didnt know. Everybody might already know this but I found a little history on Roy. After quiting high school he went to work along side his father in a shoe factory in Ohio to help support his family. JR |

James, Yes, I read that in an autobiography "Happy Trails." I forgot about it till you brought it up. The eagle boots he wore were neat. There are a few photos available in Tyler Beard's books, I also found a few on the net. They are mostly old, in black and white, and some of them are hard to see real good. Tex and I have been discussing Roy Rogers lately, and who made his boots. We believe that Charlie Garrison, who made boots for Nudie Cohn (Nudie's) made a lot of them until 1955 or so. In Tyler Beard's books there is reference to the old Hyer Boot company also making some of them, and boot companies just sending him boots. One of these days I need to go to Branson to see the Roy Rogers Museum. I am sure they have some on display. Mark |

Mark, I found an article on Charlie Garrison and it said he built boots for Roy and Rex Allen. Lets just have a forum field trip to the museum and look at them. JR |

Mark, Tyler may be right about Hyer making some of Roy's boots but I don't see it. I have never seen Roy wearing a pair of Hyer boots. In his later years Roy isn't pictured wearing fancy boots that I know of. And it may have been because Garrison left California and he didn't have a good bootmaker. I would like to see all of the pics of Roy and his boots. This is a good topic...TR |

Mark, Joe Patrickus at JP's Custom Boots might also have some Info. If memory serves, he was asked to make the 50th Aniversery Boots for Roy. I believe that Roy actualy signed a few Pairs himself before he passed. |

Those are real nice Joe. What was Roy like in person? Wished I could have met him. The Lone Ranger was the only one I ever got to meet. JR |

Joe, I recognise Roy, but who the heck are the two tough looking hombres? Did they play outlaws in some of Roy's movies? What an honor it must have been to have a picture made with Roy Rogers. Mark |

Joe, Nice pictures and story about Roy and your connection with him. It is an honor, but then again you're a nice man and a good bootmaker and he's lucky to have your work. |

Joe, Good photo of some young guy with a mustache! Is that your son in the pic with you and Roy? Were those boots made for Roy personally or for marketing purposes. You haven't said. Just been wondering whose boots he was wearing in his later years...TR |

Tex, I have a few other books, a biography about Nudie, and another book on western wear (not Tyler Beard's) that has a few more pictures of Roy and his boots. Most of the pictures of just the boots and outfits give credit to the Roy Roger Museum in Victorville CA. However, it moved to Branson two to three years ago. I am not sure if everything made it to the Branson location. I believe some things were sold for estate taxes after Dale Evans passed away. There is an interesting pair of Roy Rogers boots that were made for the Bi-centennial, blue double eagles. I wonder who made those? According to the book I have, "Happy Trails," Roy's father was a shoe laster for United Shoe Co. in Cincinnati OH. Did you know that (up to a few years ago) every year, hundreds of thousands of people visited Roy Roger's birthplace........Roy said that the home he was born in was the location for the Cincinnati Reds baseball team. (It was demo'd a few years ago) He said he was born somewhere between second base and center-field. Mark |
