No not much. I have had some speed bumps due to I like to be covered with the tax man. Since we are going to try and give away buckles (if we get enough donations)I had to check with my CPA about things.
So there are some things I have to do that I did not realize. Jim who runs the saddle contest has been a big help.
I know you don't need to know all my problems but I don't get to make many long distance calls during school time and I am going back to Graduate school again for another certification.
I have so little time to call companies for donations. The companies that have been contacted so far have been wonderful.

I reread my post. Sounds like I'm a little down.
I am just a lot going on in my life right now. Mark don't misunderstand I love that weekend!! I think for those who have never been, do not know how much fun we all have! I absolutely love everyone coming over and just meet and greet. It is not an everyday event to have people over like, Janne from the other side of the pond, Dick from Minn., Wild Bill from CT., Paul Bond from AZ. It is neat to get such a diverse group together.

I wasn't paying attention to where I posted.

Sorry Mark.
Janne
You ordered an american smoker from where?
How did you ever pay for shipping?
You ought to see the smokers that I saw at my State convention. It is put on my Skills USA.
Kind of like Future Farmers of America but this is for Career and Tech. students.
The smokers are one class. Students can enter this class and there were some awesome ones. If I can figure out how to post some I will.

I ordered it through a company in Sweden. The price was about $275 including shipping. I am still waiting, it arrives Sweden next week. Here it is. Ok, I am making cowboy boots, I have ordered a smoker and I want to buy me an US pick up. Man, these trips to the USA is about to make me half american :-)

Steve,

Nope, but we can give you info;

The 17th Annual Boot-Saddle Makers Trade Show starts at 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM Friday and Saturday October 7 & 8, 2005 at the MPEC on 1000 Fifth Street in Wichita Falls Texas. It is $10.00 per person.

Hotels with blocked rooms for the Round Up, and they are near the MPEC, are the Holiday Inn @ 940-766-6000, LaQuinta @ 940-322-6971, Best Western @ 940-766-6881 and Quality Inn @ 940-322-2477.

A web page for info on the fine Texas city of Wichita Falls is http://www.wichitafalls.org/.

The swap meet starts at 7:00 AM on Friday, October 7 till noon in the parking lot. Free admission to buyers, sellers is $20.00 bring your own table. Sellers must register by mail.

There is a banquet/awards dinner on Saturday October 8, 2005 at 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. It is $12.50 per plate, reserved, and the grub is usually mighty fine (mine wasn't great last year but the other years it was fantastic).

Friday nite, October 7, is a BBQ aka "Cunningham Social", aka "Watch Brian Eat" at Gary's, I'll let him chime in with that info. I will say that Gary and his wife Shelly's hospitallity is second to none.

Contact Eddie/Kathy Kimmel @ 325-356-3197 or kimmels@comanchetx.com for the registration. They, and everyone who has a part in it, do a wonderful job with the Round Up.

One more thing.........

Everyone better be there!

Looking foward to seeing ya. Nope your mittens awaiteth sir. I had sent you an e-mail?
Steve
I met you a couple of years ago at Brownwood. I don't know if you remember.
The "watch Brain eat night" is always on. We serve burgers and a few dowgs with chips, tea or lemonade aid. This is how it works if you like that stuff Carl, Brian, Jake and my wife attempt to make it happen. Now if you would like a steak, Michael A. has brought fish, Dick has his veg. burgers and things like that are brought. If you would like a different beverage please bring it.
We are pretty laid back and as I have said: we eat, drink and get to tell a few lies. This year I'm going to tell people about what my 100th pair LOOKED like:-)

Glad the end or the earth threw you back our way. Hope to see and hear more from you in the future.

And I hope there are a lot of good-looking boots entered in the contest, or at least on display.

Gary, will there be enough room for me to display 1 or 2 vintage pairs?

Thanks to everyone for the information. I went to the cordwainer event in Wisconsin last year and couldn't swing the trip to WF. Short of the creek rising I will get to Texas this year.

I remember you, Gary. I don't know if the others from the list that I met remember me, but I was the tall fellow wearing shorts and athletic shoes. I had recently had knee surgery and couldn't wear jeans. I stuck out like a sore thumb, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself and came home with lots of cool tools and supplies:-)

Steve,

Of the three years I've been at the Round-Up, I have stayed at the Quality Inn, or the Comfort Inn next door and owned by the same company. I feel okay in either one and several of the attendees have stayed there in the past.

Of course, the most important thing that a guy looks for is if the TV remote control works, who cares about safety?

Thank you for the reply. Maybe we can all have coffee one morning.

At this stage of life a comfortable mattress ranks up there with the working remote, among other things. If I have any trouble I hope that you are close, I am too crippled to fight.:-)

Hopefully, I won't be the "Lone Ranger" out there.
I love the Waffle House. Nothing comes close North of the Mason-Dixon line and since I can't take my guns to town I will have to rely on my charm to ward off them bad guys. I'm also willing to chip in on Brians Breakfast as long as I don't have to mortgage my home.

I'm sure there will be people your way at the Ramada. If you need in heat (firearms), I'm sure one of us can supply you with a couple machine guns, grenade launchers or bazookas to ward off them bad guys.

I am sure somebody there will be packing. In Texas you never know who is since we have the concealed permits now. That's what keeps the bad guys away. And our good Gov Perry just signed into law a new bill allowing concealed carry in vehicles without a permit. Of course I never touch um myself..TR

Our good ol Pres. Bush signed into law making it legal for us lawmen to carry in all 50 states. Problem lies with having to put that big ol sticker on my luggage when flying and shipping a weapon so no packing for Randy in Texas. Ill rely on my charm and you gun toten Texans to protect me.

I'm really looking forward to the roundup and hanging with the best of the best boot makers. I wish I had more leave time from the police department. I would probably ride my bike to the Round Up.

Hey Everybody,

I got an e-mail from Kathy Kimmel concerning some of the hotels in Wichita Falls;
____________________________________________

"I just found out (because I called to verify our reservations at the Holiday Inn, Wichita Falls), that what USED to be the Holiday Inn is now called The Remington. AND what used to be the Radisson is now the Holiday Inn !! These changes took place on July 28th, with no warning at all to the MPEC, or us."

"Our reservations were still in order under the new "Remington" name, and hopefully others who reserved rooms there will still have theirs."

"Any who call to get the number for what they THINK is the Holiday Inn on Broad Street, will really be getting the number for the "old" Radisson, not the Holiday Inn adjacent to the MPEC, which is now called The Remington."
____________________________________________

I have asked the Kimmels, to join our group, so hopefully they can post any other changes. Also, Kathy told me they will have a web-site up in a couple months.

So if you know of anyone who is not active on the Forum, or if you talk to a boot/saddlemaker who is going, please tell them of the change.

Pass it along.

I got an e-mail from Kathy Kimmel and wanted to pass some information on;
______________________________________________

Eddie and Kathy,
Mother wanted me to let you all know that she will not be at the Round-Up this year. She fell on Aug.27th and broke her femur and now has a rod, blade and screw in place! She's at St. Catherine's Center in Waco for rehab and it looks as if she will be there until at least the end of October! She's not too happy about that, but we want to be sure she will be able to drive again and do for herself---there's no taking care of her!! The only way to know that she's not putting weight on the leg is to keep her under supervision!! Keep her in your prayers, she still misses Jack terribly, he was such a good husband to her.
She also wanted me to thank you for the card. It means a lot to her to know that she has such good friends! Her address at St. Catherine's is:

Norma Reed--3253
St. Catherine's Center
300 West Hwy 6
Waco, TX 76712

Her room phone is (254)761-8253. She can call locally, however she can't dial long distance and she refuses to use a calling card---it's too much trouble!!

Thank you for your friendship, she loves you all!!

Joe,
Thanks for the compliment. It was good seeing you and meeting your daughter. I received an e-mail from Randy Cooley today and he's sending me some pictures to post for him. That will be great because he was there all of the days. I can't wait.

Carrlyn,
Thanks for posting the Roundup photos. Believe it or not, the roundup is the high point of my year since '97'. Shows how exciting things are here in boot-barren CT. I have a correction, the black shark boots with the burgundy border were made by me, not Bill Nordan from Alabama. WB

Hey All, After attending my first Round-Up I'd like to let everyone know what a great time I had.
It was a real pleasure to meet and hang out with several members of this forum. I'm certainly inspired to continue to learn more about boot making and hopefully study under one of you masters as soon as I can "get out of Dodge" for a couple of weeks.. In my best Chicago/Texas drawl
See Y'all next year!
