Carl McDowell, a bootmaker in Wichita, Kansas, passed away in May at the age of 93. A good friend of Carl's sent us these pictures, as well as a couple pair of boots that were found among his things. This first picture was taken in the late 40's early 50's at Carl's shop. He is the man on the left. Note how fancy those boots are. |

Here is a group shot of some fancy boots that Carl made. He really didn't make a lot of fancy boots, so these are very special. |

This pair was actually sent to us. They have an alligator foot, and really were spectacular. They were made in the late 40's, early 50's. |

This picture of Carl was taken earlier this year. The boot that he's standing next to was at his shop. Carl's friend had it restored, and was able to get Carl to have his picture taken with it. Carl McDowell was one of the most kind people we had ever met. He loved what he did, and it really is the passing of an era. |

Carrlyn, Thank you for the tribute for Carl. I think it's very important for us to know our past in bootmaking as it will help guide our future. Daniel |
